THE MASTERCLASSES 2023 ARE CANCELLED.
PLEASE RETURN FOR CLASSES IN 2024. THANK YOU.
Le Capanne is located in the center of Tuscany, north of Montepulciano and south-east of Siena. Arezzo lies nearby and also Florence is not far. For train travellers Arezzo would be the station to approach or – even closer – Sinalunga. Surrounded by woods, fields and olive trees the 18th century farm house offers the calmness for concentrated learning and working but at the same time the freedom for independent leisure in the nature.
This masterclass is intended for all flute players: pupils and students before, during or shortly after their studies, for those who have finished their studies and are looking for a job and for all those working with the flute, who need some new impetus or are looking for a „training opportunity“, but also for ambitious amateur flutists.
In and on Le Capanne most participants and professors will live, play and work, cook and eat together during the masterclass days. There is a choice between
1) full board (accommodation and meals) – recommended,
2) meals during the class times or
3) only participation in the class.
Each participant will receive the minimum of three individual lessons with Prof. Michael Faust of 45 minutes each and takes part in further daily group lessons.
There are, in principle, no repertoire restrictions. However, it is desirable that each active participant prepares works of different eras. The advanced students should have studied at least one Mozart concerto well, as the course is also meant as preparation and training for possible auditions, be it entrance exams, auditions or competitions. Anyone interested should have prepared the relevant orchestral audition pieces, as they will also be dealt with during the course.
Every participant should play every day, either during the daily technical exercises (individually and in groups), during lessons at repertoire workshops or with the audition pieces. It is also desirable that well-known – and also less well-known – literature of the 20th and 21st centuries will be worked on.
Please tell us on the registration form your list of repertoire and which works you are particularly fond of and hence should be worked on.
Piano accompaniment: Mattia Fusi
There will be participants’ concerts organised in Le Capanne, Castello di Gargonza or in the city of Siena.
Michael was the first German to be awarded the Pro Musicis-Award 1986 in New York. Since that time he has presented solo concerts throughout Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia.
As an orchestral musician he held positions as principal flutist in Rome, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Munich. Since 1988 he has been the Solo Flute with the WDR Sinfonie orchestra in Cologne.
Mr Faust is Professor at the Musikhochschule Dusseldorf and gives masterclasses in Europe, South America, Japan and the United States.
Maurricio Kagel and Peteris Vasks wrote their Flute-concertos for him.
In 2011 Michael Faust founded the association InterArtes with the scholarship-program „Gargonza Arts Award“: working in different disciplines artists spend creative months together in Tuscany.
